God's Care

Recognizing God's care when times are good is easy. It's in the hard times that we have trouble seeing that God is still concerned about us.

And when they heard that the LORD was concerned about them and had seen their misery, they bowed down and worshiped.

Exodus 4:31

Feeling the pressures of this world comming down upon us day after day can lead us away from God and make us feel alone to carry the burden ourselves. Feelings of anxiety, stress, and overwhelming burdens take their toll on the mind, body, and spirit. The Isrealites found themselves in this situation as they were enslaved by Pharoh. They had lost hope and believed that God had forgotten about them. The only hope in their minds was to fend for themselves the best that they could.

The tribal, animistic religions of the world today find themselves in they same situation. They believe that God or gods exist but in the past God became disillusioned with mankind and left them alone. In an attempt to protect themselves from evil spirits, natural disasters, starvation, and other waring tribes, they rely on many rituals such as drinking blood, making sacrifices, worshiping idols, and the magic of witchdoctors. They live in a state of fear all the time because they don't believe any higher power is looking out for their best interests.

What a wonderful relief it is to these people when a missionary is able to reach them and preach the good news that that God is here and that He cares for them. For those who are able to believe this message it is the greatest news on earth and will spring forth in pure, natural, spontanious worship unto God just like it did for the Isrealites who believed the message of Moses and Aaron that God was concerned about them.

As Christians we know in our minds that we have a loving God who cares about us very much. 1 Peter 5:7 says, "Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you." Our problem sometimes is that our burdens cause us to lose sight of God and we temporarily forget that He is concerned about us. Believing in God's care and intense concern for us makes all the difference. Those who believe break forth in free, spontaneous, natural worship. Those who do do not are stuck in a state of fear and overwhelming burdens.

When I find myself facing hard situations my prayer to God is, "Thank you, Lord that you care deeply about me." When some one I love is facing a hard situation my prayer is, "Thank you, Lord that you care deeply about my loved one." My prayers don't change God, He is concerned whether I pray or not, it is my faith in God's care that keeps me from having a defeated mindset and makes me an overcomer in bad situations.
